The article is about young students (kindergarten and first grade) who are being introduced to technology. It covers the topic of how early on should students be taught to type properly on keyboards and use computers. Will teaching them how to properly type on a keyboard hurt their hand-eye coordination? Also, keyboards are too large for the younger student's little hands. The article also skims that idea that if computers are used to write, the student's writing ability will be hurt.
I chose this article because it starts to answer my previous question that I posted. My question was, when are students too young to be using technology on their own in class? It does not completely answer the question, but now I can look for more articles to continue answering the question. The article does not give a specific age, but it does touch on the complications younger students would have with computers. I will look for more articles on this question, but this article was a good start.

That article sounds pretty interesting and I'm glad you found it to share with all of us. The issue of when to start teaching students to type properly is important for all of us future teachers. I never would have thought about hurting their hand-eye coordination, but now I can see potential problems. I think this article wants to show the possible downfalls if students are forced to learn typing techniques too early.
I like the question you posed of when are students too young to be using technology. After observing classes and watching my own sisters, I found that technology can be used at all ages, but it needs to be grade-appropriate. My six year old sister cannot type like we can, she only can punch one or two keys at a time. However, she can use many different programs which help her on the computer. I really think your post helped bring things into perspective, at least for me.
I would like to know what you think about using computers in your future classroom and if you would encourage them to use computers at home.
